The platform has also changed. Now it is ad-infested and algorithmically crushed in the pursuit of profit to something which actually discourages these interactions.

I think it should become a Windows/Microsoft issue, to be honest. A good example is the recent Zoom vulnerability, the software made it possible to perform certain exploits on the user and operating system, so Apple stepped in and disa

The UI is a hot mess though. Every time I try out their Mercurial site (it's actually a separate site, not just a feature of the main site) I always somehow end up on the Git part of the site and there's no obvious way back.

It feels a bit overkill to pay $29 per month just for a hosted blog UI. And if you're running Ghost yourself on a server or on your computer, it's not really a static site anymore.

I would love something with a UI like Grav to edit and create my site, but with a static web page export to publish it. I'm fine with running the UI only locally on my computer so even a desktop app would be fine.

I would gladly pay, say $2-8 a month, for a search engine that actually delivered good results. Nowadays it's just SEO garbage and blog spam. Try searching for product reviews for example. It's almost impossible to find good, hone

Perhaps good for future customers, but not really for all the ones that have been scammed before and left in the cold by the company. I can't see this as anything other than "privatizing the profits, socializing the losses"

You can only run one process in RTEMS (hence the name The Real-Time Executive for Multiprocessor Systems), however you can simulate other processes via threads. This is how we run the network stack and Wi-Fi configuration tools among other

Because it is the full Erlang BEAM VM it can run any byte code compiled for it, including Joxa or LFE. However, we only have extra helper tooling for Erlang and Elixir at the moment. You can create a release manually and include any depende

You can include other C libraries (and whatever else you can manage to interface towards via Erlang's C driver interface) using NIFs (native implemented functions) and Erlang port drivers. This means it's entirely possible to use

RTEMS isn't "controlling" the execution of the code, it just supplies implementation for OS-specific utilities (effectively the POSIX API). The BEAM VM code is compiled to machine code and runs directly on the CPU. As peerst

Coming from the Erlang world (very similar to Go as described in the blog post) they're not used for raw speed (in the sense of utilizing more cores). The Erlang VM (or the Go runtime) uses them internally in that way, but for the prog

It does, if you enable it again (or reinstall it from the Safari Extensions directory). However, I get the feeling it will only last for this version, since they seem to be closing down on JavaScript extensions in general.

I'm not familiar with Netty, but in Erlang you set `active` mode which means Erlang will send your process messages for all incoming events for a socket: http://erlang.org/doc/man/inet.html#setopts-2 You can

The Erlang VM (BEAM) is non-blocking by design, you don't need anything like Netty on BEAM.

You can set a user level buffer size of the socket driver, and a receive buffer size (see http://erlang.org/doc/man/inet.html ). Why is another level of buffering needed?

There's a bigger difference: Steam competes on "open" platforms (i.e. the major OSes), where "open" means anyone could launch a competing service (and I fully expect another one to challenge Steam in the near future
