You can use the data url of the image, I made a small test here: http://cuenca-stuff.s3.amazonaws.com/jpgtopdf/index.html (I don't know if by "base64" you mean "data url", which usually encodes

These slides are practically unreadable in an iPhone. They are split in half and it's impossible to get a full page on the screen (I can only see the right half of the previous slide and the left half of the next slide). Anybody has an

The retina modifier is only useful when you request a smaller thumbnail than the original. So your original may be 1000x1000px, you use a 128x128 thumbnail on your regular (non-retina) site, and you serve 256x256 thumbnail to your retina us

We have a service similar to imgix (thumbr.it). The way we serve retina images is that you add @2x to the name of the images with JS, and when we see the image name ends with @2x we serve double the size you requested (see http://thumbr.it

I've used Duolingo in the web and in an iPhone, and speaking as a developer it's depressing to see how good and polished is this app. I wish I had their eye to nail down a perfect UI/UX. I installed the Android app right now, and seems to b

Fantastic news! Pypi downloads were the slowest and most unreliable part of our install process. It is/was so bad that it almost always failed when you have a mid sized list of new packets to install.

Thumbor and imgix seem nice products. I'm also working on another very similar product, http://thumbr.it/ . I guess our main differentiator is that we also do thumbnails of documents and we allow the user to create their own effects on the

Very nice! I once thought about doing something like this, but I had some real work to do. Thanks for this resource! This is specially useful because of the verbosity and ugliness of the "JSON" API (much more difficult to get right by hand

Shameless plug, I have a webservice ( http://thumbr.it/ ) similar to your project, but I also added instagram like filters to the images and it converts word and pdf files to images, and I'm adding html and pdf as output formats and html as

Is there any open source ML framework that includes support for DNN? Do you know of any tutorial that may guide the beginner using DNN, I have no idea how to choose the number of hidden layers and activation functions. Thanks!

The problem I have with Vary headers is that many reverse proxies will just not cache anything with a Vary header. The reason is that if they add the value of the header that "varies" to the key of the cache, now they have to cache under ma

In my experience chardet misclassifies very often iso-8859-1 as iso-8859-2. I saw the misclassification even in small spanish pages, which were using only the typical spanish characters.

I did it just now. The divs that contain the choices can only be scrolled with two fingers, a trick most users don't know about. The native select can be scrolled with only one finger.

I thought Chrome was protecting me against Flash bugs running Flash in a sandbox. If so, this exploit needs to break through Chrome's sandbox and it seems legitimate to call it a Chrome exploit.

I've been working at Google, and had a similar experience. But I do think in many cases you can actually do better. It's not that you're smarter than Amazon/Google/... engineers, it's that you're solving a problem that it's orders of magnit

We use CPM. When the user registers we store their source (facebook Ad, AdSense, organic, etc.), and we derive how much are we paying for each user, as I said, a few cents for each user registration.

We also got better results from Facebook Ads than from AdSense. Something that we found is that we got better results if we changed the image on the Ad periodically and if we stopped for a while our campaigns. We track the user by source, s

Whatever. >10ms is perfectly reasonable db access. Of course if your data is small enough to fit in memory you will have much faster access time, but if it's and you don't have a SSD, every disk seek will be at least 10ms and you may ne

The time for a DB request depends a lot on the particular request. If you're querying by key then it's usually ~30 ms. Their memcached is only "much" slower than actual memcached if you run your "actual" memcached in the same computer or so

It depends a lot on each particular project. Panoramio and pubhubsubbub are two of the most well known Google projects built in AppEngine.
