Apple has it's privacy details laid out, in both plain English and fairly in-depth, at https://www.apple.com/privacy/ They make it very clear that they are protecting data, to a far greater degree than Google offe

It's not there yet, but mobile broadband is becoming increasingly viable. It's far from ideal, but 4 (soon 3) competitors are better than the 1 choice I have for wired broadband.

I'm not going to weigh in on copy/pasting this specific article, but in more general terms, I like the approach used by LWN - Subscribers get access to articles, and can choose where to share them. https://lwn.net/

There is a LOT that can be done to improve desktop linux, but I think in this case, at least according to the article, the difficulties were largely political, not technical.

Agreed. Unfortunately, updating the way people look at things is a lot harder than updating code. It takes years of work to convince people to buy-in to things, and a lot of it is advertising and promoting, not just education and training.

Many of them do come from a disregard for privacy. That bothers me, but some people are happy to make that trade-off for better services.

AFAIK, you do NOT get better placement for using AMP. You get better placement for having a fast site, which you can do easily without AMP.

I recommend buying individual shows, via iTunes/Google/etc. These are typically ~25/season, and don't include any commercials. No need to deal with DVR restrictions, fastfowarding issues/etc.

Apple has one of the strongest commitments to privacy that I've seen. All the Apple Watch health data is stored encrypted on your iPhone directly. The Battery life is only 1 day though.
