It’s tempting to think that being “right” - in principle, objectively, or even legally - gives superpowers over legal proceedings. It doesn’t. Even a brief brush against targeted litigation will clear up this confusion quickly and painfully

Another "gotcha" with PG notify is that in PG the payload cannot be more than 8kb long. If the UPDATE query changes thousands of rows, it's quite easy to end up with a generated text longer than 8000bytes. I'm not sure i

The overwhelming majority of NPM packages are still in CJS, and will not work under Deno today. Yes, you can do hack-arounds like jspm.io/skypack, but if the person is concerned with stability and/or security, adding a 3rd party m

esbuild is a "bundler" and can replace webpack/rollup, but you still need to use yarn/npm to install all dependencies exactly the same as you do now. If your concern is primarily security-driven, esbuild is not to the to

ExtJS = "What if JSX, but in JSON" ;) For me, ExtJS redefined what's possible on the web a full decade before React/Angular & co, and it's sad that Sencha is now part of a heartless corporate graveyard.

FWIW, our experience was different: I benchmarked our Node apps on C6g, C5n, and M5zn and found Graviton to be 10-25% slower in our CPU-bound NodeJS code than the same code on x86. Graviton give you better relative performance per dollar, b

Yes, one huge challenge of P2P over the internet is piercing the NAT veil of ignorance. WebRTC hides this complexity, but I found it highly informative to read about how NAT traversal works even if I'll never touch this mess in my line

I read somewhere "Chasing points is coupon clipping for middle class", and that resonated deeply for me across all three stages of that behavior.

Yes, for science. It was ~$100 to check if I can avoid spending $2k+ on a PC rig because I can do my casual gaming on a MacBook Air. Turns out I can, so it was money well spent.

FWIW, I signed up for both GeForce Now and Stadia, and find Stadia to be both easier to use and better-looking. For comparison, I ran Cyberpunk side-by-side and killed the GeForce Now version after a few minutes.

Twitter, true to its name, is a bunch of little birdies chirping all around one big tree. Mostly noise, worth it for the occasional song. Like most chit-chatter at most parties. I could show up to a party, get on a soapbox, do my monologue,

SOC2 is for the US as ISO27001 is for EU. The two overlap somewhat, so there are some efficiencies for doing them at the same time when you get into the audit mode. When I ran both for our startup, I found ISO27001 to be easier to get.

SOC2 is an industry signal that you are committed to security, and it is table stakes for an enterprise SaaS vendor (deals >$100k). It is not relevant if you are actually committed - it's the signaling that counts. The fact that you

To support the statement that Series A is much harder: only ~30% of YC companies get to Series A (Michael Seibel gave that figure in one interview). So even with YC backing, 2/3rds of funded seed-level startups either quit, die, merge,

Some people might think "10-20x growth sounds likely for a startup, no?". Frequently, at "Series A" a startup is valued at $20-40M. Getting a 10-20x multiple on that means it should get to $200M-$1B range. Only 5% of all
