Reminds me how my mother used to say that we’re not rich enough to buy cheap things. I think it must be some proverb somewhere, but I only ever heard it from her.

Perhaps it’s a personal thing, but I clearly remember that after we had our first child I realized that I would have loved an adopted child just the same. I wasn’t of that opinion before that, but an honest word if my wife would tell me now

I can relate to number 3 so much. Especially as kids get 4 years old and older it becomes a lot of fun to spend time with them. And it’s not even playing with them that I enjoy much, though building Lego or a puzzle is fun, but working with

Indeed, I had one of those - absolutely lovely piece of machinery, as most dewalt tools really.

I really liked it at first, especially when I was able to just expand the news item with a single click. Then they changed the UI so that you had to open a new page for each item and it basically ruined it for me, after that I pretty much s

I barely ever used Postgres, but I’m curious - does Postgres support some sort of extensibility, so that something like EdgeDB could be just another plug-in that you could package into Postgres?

Call me crazy, but I never had issues with Canadian telcos - I start to think I’m some statistical anomaly :). I used Rogers, Bell and Telus for cell - all worked just fine; other than their barely functioning websites I never had a problem

I only rarely delve into the python world, but as a .net developer I always found it odd and confusing that the error message comes after the stack trace in python. I don’t see people complaining about it, so maybe it’s just a matter of hab

For what it’s worth we have 2 kids, I speak exclusively Hungarian with them and my wife speaks exclusively Ukrainian with them. They speak English in school. To my utter astonishment they speak Hungarian way better than Ukrainian - my concl

Reminds me how once I had a math test in college about simplifying trigonometric expressions (cos(a + b) kind of formulas) and I made a cheat sheet with all the formulas because I couldn’t remember them all. Obviously I forgot one formula a

At first I thought that to be a mistake also, but I gotta admit I don’t mind at all using xml in the new sdk-style csproj files now, it certainly made upgrading legacy project files slightly simpler.

Fair point. I honestly do not experience any noticeable latency after startup, but that is probably because my dev machine is so powerful (12 core intel core i7-8700 3.2GHz, 64GB RAM). Coincidentally I do have it associated with txt files,

I used to be a big time notepad++ user, but at some point decided to try to use VSCode as my go to text editor. The ease of use and the large number of good quality extensions more than makes up for the slight latency at startup. To my big

I absolutely loved the Passport, especially the touch sensitive keyboard, it felt so revolutionary at the time.

To be honest, I’m unsure how many ‘pure’ RDBMS are out there, and doesn’t seem like the parent comment had them in mind. I’d rather suggest that mainstream RDBMS in general don’t have trouble working with data formats such as json or xml. S

My experience supports that - on public transit alone our family saved more than 5k USD last year, it would’ve more than made up for any equipment I would’ve had to buy (turned out though that I already had everything needed to work from ho

To this day I think the touch sensitive keyboard of the BlackBerry Passport is absolutely revolutionary. Not sure if they just licensed it or created themselves, but I loved it. That was probably the one thing I loved about BlackBerries, an

I found that one particular thing that helps preventing forgetting your native language(s) is reading. Specifically as I get older I rediscovered some absolutely great classical books in my native Hungarian, Russian and Ukrainian languages.

re #1 - to be fair, even if you have to use `unsafe`, it's not that bad [1]: unsafe struct FixedBufferExample { public fixed int _buffer[1024]; // This is a fixed buffer. } Sure, you need to be careful, but given that you

Apologies for the silly question, but what’s so difficult in adopting v6? Cloud providers spend billions on new hardware every year, I’m honestly surprised at reading that some of them don’t fully support it yet? Is there some specific tech

No it’s not. VS Code doesn’t allow you to view/manage threads, modules for example which are crucial for a bit more advanced debugging. I love VS Code and use it daily, but it’s no replacement for VS yet.
