LLM's have us spoiled. I'd like to see the ouput of something like nanogpt [1] trained on a Gibson corpus. Seems like a lot better looking result should be easy to achieve today. [1] https://github.com/eniompw/

The headline, subhead, and article text all point to budget as the primary issue. It highlights drastic cuts in Trump's budget: "JWST ... would see its operating budget cut by 25 percent relative to planned 2024 operations, from $

I was wondering about the headline date "missing for a millennium", as this Babylon is much older than 1000 years. From the article it seems like "two millenia" is more accurate: "The text survives in 20 manuscripts

Amazing to me that an article like this doesn't have a big section discussing how a provider sharing personal health data without permission is blatantly illegal under the HIPAA act. It only mentions as an aside that there are various

Thanks, missed that! I remember seeing benchmarks showing like 15% slowdown from Spectre/Meltdown mitigations, so this is not as bad as that, but that is on top of the other too I guess...

The end-user processor slowdowns from Spectre and Meltdown mitigations were fairly substantial. Has anyone seen an estimate of how much the microcode updates for this new speculative vulnerability are going to cost in terms of slowdown?

It is a shame also that this topic is deemed too hotly political for HN and hence the flagging. We are lacking in good forums for measured discussion of what is happening in this country right now.
