Interesting to see Intel boosting ISPC again. My impression had been that it was a skunkworks project they never really supported or accepted. See Matt Pharr's very interesting blog posts on the development and open-sourcing of ISPC.

The US made slave importation illegal in 1808 -- [1] though see [2]. The slaves in the US between then and the civil war were mostly born here. There is also a data issue. The graphs are generated from US census information. The census

Lol. I had that 100-in-one kit and remember the transistor non-explanation. I remember the kit being kinda fun but not nearly so much as programming. With the hardware kit it was almost impossible to make anything outside of the limited

I don't find any mention of screening for steroid use. My understanding is that steroid use is much more common in weightlifting than running. I would have expected them to rule that out as an alternative cause of the effects they ar

I sometimes dump megabytes of text to stdout/stderr as a way of monitoring or debugging long-running computations. Terminal speed matters then.

The desktop user may be less happy if the lifetime of their processor is 1 year instead of >10. Thats the other downside of running hot: shorter time to failure.

The lack of evidence that his death was an assassination is why this isn't the lead. The other parts of the story are factual and supported by evidence. Suspicions about the cause of his death are just that: suspicions.

Its unfortunate that C and C++ kept the mindset that automatically memory managed variables are stored on a SMALL stack, with the consequence of exceeding that small and unknown size being that your program crashes. For variable sized array

I don't think there are any great advantages for computational viability. He is introducing a new category-theoretic language, but in the end the same computations have to be done. In his language, there is no "tape" because

This deserves some warning: the intense explicit language is pretty shocking even if it is 2000+ years old from a famous classical poet.

My childhood claim to fame with tetris was to get a negative score on the windows 3.1 version. It turned out the points were stored in a 16 bit integer and wrapped to negative values above 32767. For sure in that version the "hypertap

It would be more like if Pirate Bay sued an ISP for blocking end users from accessing their site. Aptoide makes it easy to find and install the apps; it doesn't create or modify them.

The commodore 128 allowed the same trick of moving the machine stack and zero page. But the 6510 processor didn't have useful multiple-push or multiple-pull instructions so the possible speedup wasn't as much. Also in practice
