I don't know how the US retirement system works, but I think Germany is pretty unique in that the current working population is directly paying for the pensions of the retired population. There is no investment of those funds of any

The retirement system is completely broken over here. As an employee you have to pay into it. I pay > 500€/mo, which a big part of my pay check and one of my largest expenses. My employer has to pay the same amount on top. You mig

Hard to do if most of your life is work. I find it very hard to find space for an actual life after subtracting a full-time job, exercise, personal hygiene, nutrition, etc. from my waking hours. It's essentially ~2h a day + the weekend

iostreams are horrible to use, especially if you want to format your output and they blow up compilation to a mythical degree. People go to great lengths to avoid them and I agree with them. print/println are based on the fmt library (

I find it funny that people that know almost nothing about C++ talk about it so much. Function pointers are not the only way to treat functions as values, as is implied in the article. Lambdas exist and have existed in 2013 as well (and are

I don't think this would have prevented it. Removing ".." segments from paths is part of URL parsing and required by the HTTP specification. Nginx very likely does this too.

I mainly used stainless steel myself, but I have been losing weight in the last year and it's just too easy to cook with minimal (or no) oil in non-stick pans. Oil easily adds a lot of calories to everything.

I host a very small blog and I am tempted to use Cloudflare, because it seems latency is very bad from some geographic regions. And I would guess every website wants reasonable latency from a large part of the world, right?

I think Pale Fire is one of the weirdest and coolest books I have ever read and I think about it quite often. Sometimes art pieces break the mold of the medium, broadening what it means to be a game or a movie and I think Pale Fire does thi
