I've been running Plex on my AppleTV 4k for years with few issues. It gets a lot of use in my household. I have my server (a headless Intel iGPU box) running it in docker with the Intel iGPU encoder passed through. I let the iGPU defau

The 2.5Gbe network writes against a RAID-Z1 config of 4 drives puts the sustained write speed below that of most QLC drives. Recovery from a lost drive would be slower, for sure.

The CPU bottleneck would be resolved by the Pentium Gold 8505, but it still has the same 9 lanes of PCIe 3.0. I only came across the existence of this CPU a few months ago, it is Nearly the same price class as a N100, but has a full Alder L

I love reviews like these. I'm a fan of the N100 series for what they are in bringing low power x86 small PCs to a wide variety of applications. One curiosity for @geerlingguy, does the Beelink work over USB-C PD? I doubt it, but would

The problem quickly becomes PCIe lanes. The N100/150/305 only have 9 PCIe 3.0 lanes. 5Gbe is fine, but to go to 10Gbe you need x2. Until there is something in this class with PCIe 4.0, I think we're close to maxing out the IO

It's counterintuitive, but beavers fundamentally change the soil conditions and cause a lot of the overall flow to be away from the surface. Beavers are one of the sadly misunderstood creatures and are almost entirely responsible for a

I would not be surprised if many of these systems rely on several ISA cards with proprietary protocols and drivers. I am only aware of a single modern-ish motherboard with ISA, the MS-98A9, and it only supports Intel 3rd Gen Core series CPU

My son uses a Kindle DX. I had to replace the battery, it doesn't have WiFi, and they shut down the 3G network access years ago. It's perfect in that way. No distractions and no network access. I removed the 3G modem when I replac

LLMs are quite good at translation. You can even instruct them to use different linguistic styles and regional idioms. They are also quite good at translating poorly written and only semi coherent writing, which can be incredibly useful if

Not sure if it's still the case, but last year I could only top up with my AmericanExpress in Apple Wallet. Neither Visa nor MasterCard worked. This was a widespread issue at the time.

That is what I assumed as well. In both the current and previous admins. But as more details come out about the current admins use of signal, this appears to not be the case. They are using a shitty third party patched version of signal spe

A bit of a nitpick. You get monthly credit for 4c/24gb on ARM, no matter the region. So even if you chose your home region poorly, you can run those instances in any region and only be on the hook for the disk cost. I found this all ou

Most of those models are not real. They exist, but they don't make many of the base model and if you attempt to purchase one, it is a 4-18 month lead time. I was in the market in Mexico last year, just looking for a cheap city car with

If I'm spending $3k, I'm probably getting a Nvidia project digits box with 128GB. Then again, if the tokens/s of digits is comparable to a M4 Max 128GB, then I'm getting a MBP instead.

Newer models, yes. But newer versions of the same model seem to get much dumber over time. That is to say, the release version of ChatGPT GPT4o seemed much better than the version today. This does not apply to the API.

I've wanted the same for a long time. The ability to dock my phone and let it drive a display and desktop. Not because I think it would be better at it, but because it already has my stuff.

Where did you settle on for your image hosting? I like GH Pages and Hugo, but it feels dirty to put images in a git repository. At the same time, GitHub does allow 5GB per repo, so I'm torn.
