Yes, that is exactly the problem. People treat PYTHONPATH just like PATH, but the "easy scripting tricks" that are fine with PATH become subtle security vulnerabilities when you do the same thing with PYTHONPATH. E.g., people wi

Treating 10KB of JavaScript as equal to 10KB of HTML is a big mistake. They transition over a network in the same amount of time, but HTML is far faster to process. Websites with large HTML sizes often display far faster than the same infor

Hmm.. it seems that part of the problem is that Python interprets "empty entry in PYTHONPATH" as being the same as ".". That just seems wrong. If you want the current directory as one of your PYTHONPATH entries, then you

Excellent, thanks for the pointer. I've added that to my document on the history of the Scepter of Goth. It looks like I'll be able to (eventually) post other things, too!!

It lets you edit in place, which is very handy. It also keeps the original file permissions, which "blah bar > foo ; mv foo bar" does not do. Convenient. Frankly, I think that should be in the posix standard.

One distinction is that ventoy is straight open source software. easy2boot is free (no cost), but appears to be a mix of open source and closed source software.

It is not just inconvenient, hiding or modifying URLs is a lie and is a security problem. Hiding part of the URL means that you don't really see what's going on, and that is the first step towards a security problem, not away from

I think the heuristic is really easy: "Is it slower than before?" If it's slower, then you require a manual override to accept the merge. That will make performance regressions a whole lot less likely. Sure, in some cases the
