You could definitely use it for something useful; you can't store anything through it, but if an allocator supports allocations of size 0 with the same semantics of non-zero allocations, you get a "unique" ptr from the alloca

Given how well web pages are coded, I'm curious whether a Firefox that's browsed to 50 static pages fares. At some point the pages themselves should get some blame (and yes, they can be offloaded, but we're back to balancing

It definitely makes a difference around threading; exposing thread safety in function API makes it easy to understand where/how you can add threading support, or what is preventing it.

If a function is safe only if everyone else you rely on never calls a particular function, it's not that safe. Certainly less safe than other functions guaranteed not to result in crashes if you use them right.

If instructions don't run the same between heterogenous cores, i.e. one core supports instructions the other doesn't, unless this information is available to the scheduler, there's no way it can make that decision. AVX512 was

For Bitlocker (and I imagine other tools which support TPM keying), a recovery password is generated in addition to the TPM unlock key. If the motherboard goes kaput you dig out the long key to unlock it, assuming you kept it somewhere safe

In practice I always choose the first enumeration to be a specific error of "you failed to initialise this". I don't know that I've ever directly used an enum as an index, but I guess if I did I'd have to bias it.

It's normal for JS tooling to minify symbol names in order to shrink the amount of JS being pushed to user agents; those a... symbols might actually have sensible names somewhere along the compilation pipeline.
