The example of lost US jobs, given in the article, is actually about off-shoring. Not related to H1-B at all. Lets get that under control first. Secondly, the process I went through back in the 70s, the position should be advertised for som

Don't know where I sit in this bell curve. Probaby far to the right. The question is - what moral to the story can be gained from my case. I turn 68 next month. 7 years ago I was cold-call recruited (they called, not me) and offered by

You'll be wanting the first one, volume 1, and also Volume 2 for data structures. These are classics, still relevant, and will give you a good grounding to pursue the more recent offerings suggested by other answerers here. Fascicles i

British money is - or was - explicitly an IOU. The notes bore the phrase "I promise to pay the bearer on demand the sum of (n) pounds ..." Used to be gold, not sure what you get these days. Other countries also, like India.

Um, why? 1990's board configuration (VGA, RS 232, etc). While I happen to like FORTH, surely this would be cheaper and more effective and more usable on a Raspberry Pi or similar? FORTH is still available, actually a nice language for

Coincidetally, this article showed up in my feed. Apart from the advice to carry a notebook to record what got one into the Hyperfcus Zone (I tried, I did, but I cannot remember to remember to make the note), it is a professional take much

It seems that Safari iOS's latest "helpful" behavior, sliding the tabs and favorites bar out of sight, is changig the window size and so invoking reflow. Which moved what I was reading off the bottom of the screen. Scrolling

I was very enthusiastic about Smalltalk in the late 80's when I got Digitalk's System V to play with. And one thing torpedoed its use for me - local variables in code blocks are local to the code object, not the execution stack, s

AFAIK, Chris is the only person to have blown a Klein bottle. I don't think the mass produced version is hand-blown like his original. Maybe there are a few shy chemistry equipment blowers, but not many if so.

Seems the answer is all the above. In my case, I got two major jobs via LinkedIn. And I've never got one by sending resumes out. Most of my career has been via personal network. So, YMMV.
