My wife operates an optical trap (a sophisticated microscope, she uses it for studying gene/dna physical properties) and she's pretty good at working with that instrument. The number of people good at working that microscope are i

Why is this data even being allowed to sell? Isn't this private data? Okay, i understand selling users data is pretty common here but i thought it was limited to "someone liking icecream or someone liking ford better than honda&qu

>>ASML only makes the lithography machines Woah! only lithography machines???? it is literally impossible to make any device capable of running anything close to AI without ASML. Let that sink in.

Understood, but they could fine tune base models on their own cultural context and language. Why reinventing the wheel?

I don't understand countries (especially governments) wanting to have their own models when there are already pretty solid open source (weights) models out there. Countries should want control over _where_ the compute is happening rath

I use brave and it seems to work just fine against ads. Brave also has lower memory consumption than google chrome.

I think I disagree with your premise. If china as a state wanted to do something nefarious they would just do it. They have no interest in hacking regular folk's bank accounts. It's the criminal rings (around the world) who are in

It's the scale problem (both speed and access) with LLMs. Don't you think the barrier to entry for hacking has become lower with LLMs?

Agreed! I think it will have to be a better version of the nuke NPT. Something like every country's government keeps a Mythos like model and that's it. We stop there. Since it's a model; the most powerful country could create

I wonder if there would be an equivalent of Non proliferation treaty like Nukes? I know it sounds crazy - but if there's even 0.1% chance that some models are so good that they can be used to hack into people's bank accounts - I,

Not today, may after the next 3-4 breakthroughs. One thing that people don't realize is that the AI they use today is highly highly subsidized bc of the capex that has gone into it. Even if people collaborated together - will not be a
