Thanks, this is exactly why I did open this thread. The AmigaOS part particularly piques my interest: I used 1.2 and 1.3 on A500s, and 2.x on an A2000, I never used 3.x.

Before you do that, remember that they choose your retirement home. My father deliberately didn't take those sort of photos for exactly this reason: he knew my mother would use them to humiliate my brother and I as we got older.

Some decades ago, friends of mine ran an ISP that resold bandwidth from another business. They used a leased line to the business, and every Friday evening at about 7.30 their connection dropped out. It turned out that the cleaners at the

The best advice we can provide is only what works for us. Your best bet is to find an experienced counselor who knows what to look for. As much as I wish I could help you, I can't: your reasons for drinking are yours alone, and your

Mine was a "gift" from my mother's physically abusive boyfriend, who would haul me around by my ears when I was five or six. I have three high pitched tones in my right ear, two in my left. If you're familiar with the h

I didn't even realize it was abnormal until now (although I note there's some debate as to whether it is or not). My mother has this, too, and wears blue tinted lenses to filter it out.

Thanks! I found this site a year or so back, but lost it in a browser crash (of sorts). Haven't been able to find it until now, so you're a (figurative) life saver!

I'm not very clear on this, are you suggesting that we shouldn't look where we're capable of looking because we can't look where we aren't? (Sorry, my disability sometimes makes it a little difficult to understand w

When I was in my first year of Computer Science (17 years ago), I had this CodeWarrior error that still makes me chuckle. I think I had a comment, assignment, and a System.out.println(); It wouldn't compile, had an error every single

It's not always that simple - in Dunedin, NZ, burn time can be under ten minutes. It's quite similar in Australia, too.

One of the houses I lived in had a really strong lock on the front door. The lock wasn't really the problem, though: the door is made up of four float glass panels. Of course, even if it was a solid wood door, there's another pr

It's interesting that you say this. I'm watching the first season of Stranger Things just now, and am finding myself longing for my home of the early 1980s, without computers, just a radio and TV, and my bike. I'm also findi

I had an admittedly very old ATI card that I was using in my Linux box while saving my pennies for a newer Nvidia card. I had to give up on it and use an equally old iMac (2008-ish) because the ATI card was locking up my desktop with ring

Agreed - that last bit's the key: if you have a good workplace, and people like being there, then it's a lot less likely that they'll jump ship. If you have a poor workplace, then it doesn't matter if you have overquali

I had to laugh - I'm using Ubuntu, and every time I want to listen to music (or watch a video, or play a game) I have to pulseaudio -k, because for some reason it boots up with some horrid 8-bit 22khz distortion over it all.
