The AI angle feels like clickbait in this article. Not sure what the fact that Anthropic and OpenAI leased some offices has to do with a sector-wide commercial real estate dropoff (which is not just happening in SF, for the record).

Imo, PG's latest essays have been meandering, overly political, and far outside of his core competency. This feels like an oldschool 2009-era startup-focused chicken soup for the soul with some actionable takeaways.

This would probably kill it on Instagram ads honestly. Price point is a tad high, but it's like the perfect "not sure what to get someone" gift.

Don't really have much to add other that this is the best PG essay I've read in years, and it feels like a return to form.

In my humble opinion, a chat interface (API or not) does not a product make. Not to mention that Llama is free and competitive with both (same with Mistral, heck the 7B model works great on my RTX 3080). If you started a company that blew u

Infra has always been a tarpit idea. Google didn't start out as an "infra" company, and neither did Amazon or Facebook. In fact, the few "infra companies" that did start back then (companies like Godaddy) are mi

I've seen a lot of papers recently tackle the needle-in-a-haystack problem wrt LLMs, and I think this approach (and more generally, any in-context solution) is a mistake. Imo the best way to handle this is RAG + multi-shot prompting (+

I had the privilege of playing CS from 2004-2007 on a sponsored team I led. These days, that would be "professionally" but back then, no one really took esports seriously, as it was all pre-Twitch and before broadband was widely a

I learned how to program on that PSION II! My dad brought one back from the UK (must've been '93 or maybe '94) and I got hooked. I still have BASIC (or I guess OPL) scribbles from when I was like 7 years old in a notepad. Nos

I think code generation is, generally speaking, pretty awful, but contributing to an LLM prompt is kind of an interesting evolution of software design. With that said, I don't really think it saves a lot of time (the author's Yout

I am extremely skeptical of this Gemini response, and it might be just some redditor farming upvotes. First, literally 100% of the blog posts, reddit replies, recipe books, and so on, will always list botulism as a potential danger of canni

If you need something more powerful, Boost.Interprocess is also a thing[1]. I used it like 10 years ago and seemed to work well. Looking at the docs, it even has a RAII-ish thing called `boost::interprocess::remove_shared_memory_on_destroy`

IPC having a lot of "overhead" is nonsense (other than, like, managing a mutex or semaphore). I've used many header-only IPC libraries (this one[1] worked great on Windows/MacOS). It's way easier to get a hang of in
