Yeah, my setup as a developer is a laptop with quad Core i7 CPU, 32G of RAM, 250G SSD and 1TB HDD, plus two 24" monitors. That is a piece of professional equipment for a developer, and it cost about 4 times what a decent general purpos

Oh man, that just made me realize my 9 year old dog doesn't have a lot of time left probably. It's weird, she doesn't seem to behave any differently than say 4-5 years ago, and still has lots of energy and zero health issues.

It's a nice approach, I've implemented it in Golang a while back. It's really fast, but the cost in memory is huge, especially if you store bigrams and not just single words. But it's really elegant in its simplicity. B

Rendering icons as SVGs is pretty horrible in terms of performance on mobile devices.

Read the doc - the suggested x5 improvement is compared to PNG, which is the only other way to currently solve the problem of an icon with transparent edges (let's leave GIF aside), not compared to JPEG. The gain compared to JPEG was a

Until JPEG supports transparency, it leaves a vast hole where a good lossy alpha enabled format is needed - namely icons. With the high resolution of mobile devices, using PNG for this use case is a huge waste. Regardless of the quality dif

I bet it's an effect rather than a cause. We had some server incident recently that started with a huge write spike on some machines. Turned out it was the nginx error log and the problem itself was something else.

Thanks, I've now read it. Very nice. I guess having your architecture out in the open is liberating in that sense. So now two specific questions: 1. So why did you have a big read spike? And 2. are you going to share the TODOs as well?

I haven't read it but I like the idea in general. One question: aren't you concerned about accidentally exposing security critical info over the doc?

If you want this to remain on some side terminal and update constantly, you can of course run "watch worldcup today". And I like that the command actually makes sense :) On a side note, in Gnome terminal, the formatting characters

I hope I won't get downvoted for this - but it looks like Git is going the C++ way - tons of very intricate details and features very few people use, that make the learning curve ever steeper. Now, most people work with, what, 20% of g

We switched some of our services from Python to Go and are very happy. To be more precise - we chose Go over Python for new projects that would have been developed in Python a year ago; we didn't rewrite anything from scratch in Go - t
