This isn't an official Google project, the contributions seem mostly from one person, so probably someone doing this as a 20% project. Carbon OTOH has a team working on it AFAIK.

Maybe more like C++ without (most) pointers. A coupe of years ago they allowed mutable references in function arguments, so the use cases for passing pointers around were reduced even further.

I know that there are some pretty low quality real time voice changers that can do stuff like this, I wonder if high quality models that can fix accent etc can operate in real time these days.

AS3 was really great for its time. 15 years ago it had stuff we've seen go mainstream afterwards - the language was like modern Typescript, it had components and React like behaviors, I did a couple of projects on it and it was a joy -
