There's an error in the Primitive C types section, the width of long: > long 8 (32 bit) 8 (64 bit) the second column should be "4 (32 bit)" AFAIK, but definitely not 8 bytes / 32 bit.

If I'm reading this correctly, and he set GOMAXPROC to 1, that means that Go uses one system thread, but it still serves many requests concurrently, as there is an asynchronous IO loop under the hood. Same goes for Node.

It really depends on which application. In the past few years I've been mainly writing server-side infrastructure libraries and services with no GUI at all. In those cases I'm writing stuff bottom-up anyway, so while I'm writ

I don't like to write tests ahead of code, but the idea of "Avoid running main" is very powerful and something that helps me a lot. Usually in a new project I try to just use tests as the playground for the evolving code, an

In the past you could tune redis to hold a dataset larger than the memory you had, and it would swap pages on its own. About a year after this 2010 post, antirez decided to remove this completely (in redis 2.6 or 2.8, I don't remember)

It is important to note that in the many years since this post, while redis has remained single-threaded - it also removed the entire concept of VM, and now works only fully in memory.

It's not even that in this case - it's just SQLite with a network layer, no persistence and each operation blocks redis completely until finished.

I've been working on a secondary indexing module for redis with a subset of SQL WHERE for selection predicates, if anyone's interested. It's not stable yet, but it's coming along nicely. The idea was actually NOT to crea

Personally, modules have been the thing I wanted most in redis for years, and it's been a delightful experience working on modules for the past months. I really think it's a game changer for redis and I can't wait to see wher

Having written a project that loads Go plugins to a C app (namely redis), it's not great but in recent Go versions it's not too bad as well.

I came to detest assert when I was working on a project with another guy, who used it generously, as a substitute for assertions in (non existing) unit tests. Nothing would annoy me more than working on my code, running it, and having all s
