Exactly, once you wrap errors with their context, or just at the lowest level wrap it with a stack trace, they become much more useful.

I actually experimented with a "database" of sorts, a redis compatible server with replication, persistence and an extendable API. It was okay as a toy project but never came close to redis performance, even when it only did ping&

Another thing I can think of - Go's interface mechanism overhead is usually significant, and I've also found that the networking stack is slow compared to raw C. When I brought this up on the user group a few years ago I was told

I don't know specifically why that is for this specific project, but in general Go has GC and bounds checking that slow things down.

These days you have http requests with context (I think starting from Go 1.8), see https://golang.org/pkg/net/http/#Request.Context

I've worked with both, and let's agree that they are about equally hard to find, or more precisely hard to hire. To the untrained, though, above average coders and managers may appear great. But only once you've met an actual

Nice. Would you consider a mechanism for injecting the client with extra commands for redis modules? As far as I can tell it's possible to run generic commands with the client, but it would be a nice touch to add more commands to it.

Ardour is one of my favorite open source projects, and it's especially admirable considering that it's not a developer and/or server admin tool. It's rare to see people hack away for years on open source desktop software

Agreed. If you're a small start-up in a hurry and <4 devs, the best strategy would be to write top-down smoke tests on your API that will actually tell you when things break, even if not exactly where. Their actual derived coverage
