Not really, not for me and many others anyway. I would just get an LTE modem for backup internet, my PC is better at everything else. I'm not sure about which sites you're talking about, but you can also do 2FA without a phone.

Vienna's Seestadt Aspern fits that description and seems to me like a very good attempt at building a "new town" with its own centre and infrastructure. It's only a short train ride away from Vienna's center, but so

Well, right now it could also just weaken copyleft while leaving proprietary non-public code copyright holders well-off.

There are many supported and distinct Linux distributions, not so for Windows versions. I wouldn't want to run Windows 2000 in 2021 because it's the last one without telemetry.

I'm not sure of the etymology here, but "extremist" could also denote someone who uses extreme measures to achieve their goals. By this definition, someone who wants complete redistribution of wealth, but aims to achieve that

So would you say that the best strategy to making North Korea a better place would be to make the lives of North Koreans as miserable as possible, destabilising the country? It might work, but it seems antithetical to the original goal of h

I've found that setting resource limits via cgroups for the whole session makes the slowdowns much more manageable. It's definitely not ideal, I'd prefer some more elaborate system where each launched app was able to use only

Off-topic to most of the points the article is making, but I'm happy to finally have some mathematical basis to my observation that saturating IO on a Linux system slows it down exponentially (or at least very non-linearly).

I've used the F-Droid fork of MAPS.ME and now have Organic Maps installed. It's much faster than anything web-based and also much faster than OsmAnd. I wish I could have OsmAnd with this renderer, since now I use both, OsmAnd i

I for one am happy with pip/requirements.txt and venvs, I guess if I wanted to publish packages I would look at a more comprehensive system, but for internal apps and scripts I don't see the benefit. I'd love to know why othe

As far as I know, there wasn't ever any law mandating banners for any and all cookies, it was for (frankly poorly defined, GDPR somewhat fixed that) non-necessary cookies. But nobody's going to put "Do you want to be tracked?

How about we actually think hard about the situation, formulate clearly why we don't like it and propose non-ad-hoc legislation that fixes the specific issues? Banning companies on the basis of "too powerful"/"I don

Not really. I think some people associate driving a car with freedom of movement. I get it, when it's your primary mode of transport, it feels dystopian to have it taken away. Interestingly, I get a similar feeling in places with no&#x

Nothing that out of the ordinary, but I'm happy with an IKEA bed frame, locally-made mattress, and long (> 2m) fluffy down duvet and pillow. I have to say starched (is there a better name?) sheets and covers are awesome ! So clean-

It's interesting to see some people feel this way. I don't really filter my views in posts on the web compared to conversations with (not very close) friends. It does feel like that could very well come back and bite me, maybe I&#

How did you evaluate the auth implementations? In my experience it's about as hard to poke holes into something as it is to fix it. Besides, a custom auth implementation doesn't need to be best-in-class, it needs to just be good e
