When reading mixed-language text we can't know if the "Tee" in the middle of an English sentence is German for "tea" or English slang for "t-shirt". We have to use imperfect context clues, so screen reader

It is surprising to me, because I can mix Czech, English and German just fine on a single screen, even in a single text field. From that perspective having to say "this whole text is in language X" seems backwards.

This function is certainly hairy, but its use in the codebase might very well be intuitive and simplify code that would otherwise be way less expressive. I personally think it can be worth it.

The website also advertises running software other than a NFS/SMB/SFTP server, it's presumably for that. You might also be surprised how much CPU power something boring like Samba can use. Finally, an entry-level CM4 costs a

Lots of other good arguments have been posted, but I'd like to say something to the teaching aspect. In high school, we had four years of Java. I already knew most of the curriculum at the start, so others would sometimes ask me for he

That connector is really long and wouldn't fit in a number of cases (ITX PCs, servers...). For carrying lots of current, thick cables are just better than PCB traces (especially on PCBs that are mostly designed for signal integrity, no

Well hopefully it'll show a few more people that our current PM Babiš isn't the anti-corruption people-lover he paints himself to be. Election's next week, so no time for investigations to fade away.

Yes, it's certainly better than a Qualcomm monoculture would be. But ideally competition on CPUs would happen in the CPU market, instead of in the target product market with lots of vertical integration. In a world where all device man

It's not as if the author of this project would have worked on touchscreen support for mainstream desktop Linux had they not started this. For many (most?), Linux is a platform to use and build upon, not something they want to contribu

Exactly, it's a search engine. It probably doesn't make sense to use it as a storage engine for logs unless you need to search all of them efficiently.

AGPL is just GPL where usage over a network requires giving users the source code of the AGPL codebase . I'll take it over a custom licence where I have to worry if I need to release the source code of everything around it (SSPL) or i

The goal might not be to maximise "views", but if nobody reads it, why bother? No need to be popular by whatever metrics, but with no readers you might just not publish at all. (Unless you see writing itself as valuable in itself.

From a data modelling perspective, it's nice to have them. When your input/output data has unzoned datetimes, you need to model them somehow, and it's better to have a competent implementation than something hand-rolled. I ag
