Reminds me of the "we can only send helmets" to Ukraine thing ... that apparently wasn't a real hard and fast rule but when originally presented you would have thought it was some magical rule set in stone.

I worked for a company where we brought in teams from a couple European countries after a merger. The absolute "I won't do anything more than I explicitly have to." was brutal. It was hard to even talk to them as they seemed

This just seems like a cycle in Iran. Protests flair up, maybe they die down, maybe the government cracks down harshly and executes people and then it's quiet for a bit.

I suspect Elon's value proposition now isn't really anything he does, it's the fear for stockholders that their companies will be evaluated like any other company and it will tank the stock if Elon isn't around. Sort of

I've seen some truly great CEOs from time to time. I knew what they did. I have zero idea what most CEOs that I've worked for do ... and the seem to want it that way.

I suspect you may be onto something. I'm a run of the mill dev. At least in the past when I was last looking for a job and more active on linkedin, the volume of contacts did not represent legitimate interest, not at all.

My wife's phone, is just full of noise. Notifications, messages, email ... some folks just want to be in front of a fire hose of crap... I don't know why.

Are your skills particularly unique / unusual resume? I could imagine that working. For most people though I expect they're just one of many and odds of spam / scam contacts greatly outweigh legit communication.

Is LinkedIn a "social network" beyond the technical term for a site like that? I find I get zero social interaction that I would associate with humans being social animals from LinkedIn. Are you seeing genuine connections with pe

I get it, if you're a city worker whose job it is to maintain a river running through a park and clearing debris makes the river less turbulent ... that's your job. Not necessarily maintaining a safe surfing spot.

It's the writers call on how to try to write it. I think the "you should painstakingly work on my thank you letter" is a bit of a rude ask / expectation. Some folks struggle with wordsmithing and want to get better.

I know getting folks onboard is not easy for any social media site. But I'd pay for a social media site that respected my preferences / content choices and had everyone using real names / validated and so on.

I'm not sure how much is outsmarting, as much as it is that the Trump administration is happy to make a big show and then sell out the US as long as he and his cronies get their cut.
