ooh this is really cool. hopefully it works with something like spatialite. i have a need to store the OpenStreetMap road network at various points in its history and being able to branch and update those branches without each consuming gig

Yeah, just depends on where you're going. We just finished a 4-day tour along the Neckar river in Germany and didn't carry anything extra (except maybe some leftover pastries from breakfast). But then long days up in the north Geo

can you describe how compute scaling works? I do a lot of work in PostGIS, which can have big CPU needs depending on the function being invoked, so my workload can look super bursty from a CPU perspective.

Seconding a vote for Spatialite support! I came here just to make that same request.

Here's one example: Tesloop operates a Tesla only taxi service in southern California. 6% battery degradation over the first 194,000 miles. Battery was replaced at this point, and the subsequent one had 22% degradation over an addition

This texture very often is the result of galvanizing the base steel to prevent/reduce corrosion: coat it with zinc so it "rusts" preferentially to the iron base metal. Similar to a sacrificial anode on a boat: "here, sea

yes, that's the true "reference" implementation, i just figured a repo from sidewalk labs (a google company) would be maybe more authoritative.

i was just starting a project and considering the use of s2. i'm going with geohash instead because I would get different values for the s2 cell based on implementation. ruby: S2Cells::S2LatLon.new(34.1234, -84.1234).to_s2_id(30) =>

One very passive method that has worked well for me in the past was to prepare a highly-concentrated salt solution (5M -- 292 g salt per liter of water) and then let the water evaporate very slowly (like only slightly open to the outside w

This is a strange comment: you take no issue with what they're saying, but seem to imply they can't have an opinion on anything they haven't personally experienced.

at that cost it almost feels like something internet archive or aws open data could provide on a regular basis. the cost of pre-made vector tiles is huge, and making them yourself has been a huge ordeal before this...

The "just pay more" arguments are fighting back at the semantic sleight-of-hand in calling it a "labor shortage" in the first place. "Labor shortage" frames the issue in a way that faults workers, not the busin

I've found that for about any situation where I need to display more than a couple hundred features on a map, vector tiles are superior to geojson/polyline parsing/geobuf: they're parsed very fast and tippecanoe has comp
