Maybe the difference is smooth full screen playback? I remember the early QT too, and used it on my old LC. Playback was mostly ok (15 fps or so) at 320x240 (think that was the resolution) but would strain if I increased the size. Memories

It's been some years since I played with it, but I think vMac worked on PPCs? If so, then you could run vMac inside of Sheepshaver and get 5. If the early version of Virtual PC works in vMac, then you could get 6. If someone knows of a

Small correction: goes back to the mid-90's as a distinct thing, and you could hear that type of beat in songs even earlier than that. DJ Shadow brought it into general consciousness with his 1996 release: Endtroducing, but others were

Other people have made good points. Just wanted to add: you'll feel better knowing you're no longer vulnerable to Google. It's a nice feeling of relief knowing Google could cancel my account tomorrow and I wouldn't be hu

When you lease an apartment or a car, the monthly rate stated is usually the actual month-to-month cost. They don't demand a full year in advance to get the stated cost, or increase the monthly cost because you didn't pay for a ye

Cortana is basically dead. Microsoft has finally acknowledged her unpopularity. You can disable it easily in Windows. I went over my privacy settings with a fine-toothed comb. Haven't seen an ad or Candy Crush since the first few minut

I mentioned it wasn't in all states. But it's still going to affect the premiums of millions. It's a good thing.

In many states right now, there are zero cost premiums for those who make within 200-250% of the Federal Poverty Line. Percentage varies between states, or sometimes even by counties. This was part of Biden's stimulus package and shoul

A built-in clock would be nice. Have you tried one of the RTC modules? I haven't yet, but thinking about this module for one of my projects. https://www.adafruit.com/product/4282

I use DeDRM. Works as a plugin for Calibre. I import the books into Calibre and the DRM is stripped away automatically. Mostly painless. https://github.com/apprenticeharper/DeDRM_tools

Electronics now come to me from Best Buy, Microcenter, and Newegg. Best Buy in particular has faster shipping than Prime. It's frequently overnight for in stock items. At least in my area. And as far as I know, there's no problems

The product is most certainly manufactured. But the culture's response to it is not. The fandom has their own language, their own in-jokes, and will rally together for the causes they find important. They've created something real

I bought Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign CS2 a long time ago. Still use it since it's mostly for hobby and very occasional freelance. There's a tiny bit of jank running it on Windows 10, but otherwise it starts quickly and ru

I've had a similar idea. It's not terrible, but gives Google a partial incentive to abuse it. I say "partial" because the perverse incentive would be offset by the PR hit. Paying for support for a problem Google created,

"Critical" is a key part of anyone's gaming vocabulary. Not just D&D, but almost every RPG with combat implements crits in some ways. That's not a word that belongs to any one person. I know someone already responded

There are many games that will give you much longer than 20 hours. It's actually a complaint by some about modern open world games and how they're geared towards 40+ hours for even a basic completion. Longer if the player wants to

When Amazon has their Fire tablets on sale, you can make a $60 tiny laptop. Or "laptop" if you prefer. ~$27 for the Fire 7. ~$25 for a Zagg hinged keyboard case. Spend 30 minutes removing the Amazon annoyances from their version o

This model uses ARM. There's only one alternative to the default ChromeOS on the Flip: Arch, which has an extensive writeup about this model on their wiki. Pity it's not Intel, or I'd have a wide variety of options. Cloudread

I thought of the Duet after writing my comment. I actually bought one when it was super cheap at Best Buy. I like it. The size is perfect. But I wish there was an optional hinged keyboard for it to turn it into a semi-proper laptop. Hoping

This doesn't help your 6 year old Chromebook, but going forward Google is going to update Chrome independently of Chrome OS. I understand your frustration though. I love ten inch laptops. That's about the perfect size for my use.

Agree. David Bowie once demonstrated it to a reporter. They walked together through Manhattan. No one bothered them. Bowie then said he was going to “turn it on”. Something in his expression slightly changed. And then he was mobbed by fans.
