Wish I knew about these guys a year ago, when I got rid of most of my books to make room for a nursery. My book search solution is to upload a list of ISBNs to google books and do "search within my library". It doesn't have full coverage, b

Or if you had a network outage and wanted to access your files. I use Mail.app to sync my gmail locally, but it'd be nice if Drive actually synced my Google Docs locally. Currently Drive just places a small json shim file on the disk, rath

I occasionally get into a state in ML where the mouse click events stop working (and the Cmd-Tab UI doesn't show up). This persists until I kill "Dock". Then the mouse starts working again (and the desktop resets itself), but the dock and

It's plausible. I've personally seen phishing done via google docs. And, at one point, Oxford blocked google docs because of phishing. So phishing via docs is probably a common occurrence. To combat this, I wouldn't be surprised if Google

Have you considered a user.js script? I'm using one to fill in the white borders and wrap comments at a reasonable width: // ==UserScript== // @match https://news.ycombinator.com/* // ==/UserScript== (function () { document.b

I'm not a fan of security questions as they're easily discoverable and known to other sites that ask the same question. So I just enter random nonsense words and save a screenshot in a secure store.

Last I checked, OCaml had a replay debugger -- one which lets you step backwards. And I know the mozilla guys sometimes use chronicle-recorder to fully record a running application for debugging. (It was referenced in a bug I filed.) ht

I believe Adobe's Reader has more support 'extensions' to PDF (e.g. embedding flash or javascript) than Apple, and that these things are often attack vectors. Preview should be immune to these. Aside from that it's mostly market share - th

When I'm writing code, I need a proper keyboard and a nice, big desktop monitor (preferably two). I still use a laptop, but it's hooked to a keyboard/monitor for the majority of my work. When I do have to work directly on the laptop, I find

Lack of epub is an issue. Amazon's format, in addition to being proprietary, is a weird and hard to deal with (due to historical PalmOS-related baggage). Also, I believe that the epubs tend to have more future-proof data (cleaner HTML, et

My take on the situation, from a mathematician point of view (M.S. in math, but very rusty): They started out with a toilet on each car and ended with a toilet on each car, the cars just happened to be twice as long in the end.
