I went down a similar path, but only saw about a 770x speedup. Mine went from 36 minutes to 2.8 seconds. I was working in Idris. I knew better, but figured the data was small enough that I could just do a linear scan for the next node inste

Preemptive multitasking, with no memory protection. I think they leveraged this to do stuff like update the appearance of buttons on click in the higher priority event process (and then send an event), to give a more responsive feel to the

It looks like they store the extended attributes in the __MACOSX tree too. And everything you download from the web has extended attributes describing the original URL and page that linked to it. (With chrome/safari, I haven't che

That was my first and my favorite so far. I did it in Haskell, barely knowing Haskell, which made things a bit interesting. I ended up learning/using STArray for the memory.

vscode + typescript seems to only surface errors in the current file. If a change breaks something in another file it isn't apparent (in my experience at least). I added tsc to a pre-commit hook to catch these issues.

There can be security issues when using encryption on top of compression. These attacks have been used against HTTPS. I don't know if they apply to this specific case, but I assumed that the restic developers were being extra paranoid.

Circa Y2k, I learned that the OSX Palm Pilot software didn't work with case sensitive. I've since given up and stuck with the default. (I'm anti-case folding in general, because of the ambiguity.)
