I tried deno a while ago (over a year) and could not find a way to get deno and typescript to accept the same files. They disagreed about filename extensions in import statements, and I couldn't find a format that was accepted by both.

The dependent languages are interesting. But the theorem proving is not easy, and probably overkill for a lot of applications. Even for stuff like boundary conditions for binary search, which could be checked with Hoare logic, I usually han

Yeah, I got an Rf8+ and between that and the roman numerals, didn't know how to get down to 200. Then I tried to move the egg to a different spot and the chicken died.

I buy from thespicehouse.com - they seem to be careful, but I haven't inquired about turmeric. I should send them an email. (I prefer them over Penzey's, which is the same family, because they have dried fenugreek leaves.)

It's called es-zett (S Z), and I believe it originally was a joined long s and a z, like ſ𝔷. (There doesn't appear to be a fraktur long s in unicode, but I include the fraktur z to show where the shape comes from.) I believe these

I always thought of it as a ligature for "et" (like ffi is a ligature for ffi) rather than a letter. But I suppose the sz ligature (ß) eventually became a letter, so there is precedent.

I could go either way, but switching back and forth is hard on me, so I tend to go light because the web is light. (Also because a lot of dark mode stuff tends to be crazy low contrast.) I do however use dark mode when reading in bed and w

TIL that ublock lets you inject CSS. I've been using tampermonkey for that (most recently to fix the mspace tags on ncatlab.org).

I think I was mainly upset that it was using a bunch of upstream bandwidth (if I remember right, it kept going while idle), possibly also didn't like the disk space that it was using for caching. Nothing important. Arguably a web appli

Yeah, I switched to the web version of outlook when I noticed (via little snitch) that the desktop app was sending 100's of MB upstream. No idea why it'd need to send much of anything in that direction.

Although, as a casual gamer, I'd like to be able to run the games that I bought in the Apple App Store on my Mac. (e.g. "DeathSpank", a fun spoof of action RPGs, is 32-bit, so it's now unplayable.) I've used crossov

I think this essentially happened with XEmacs. It's been a while (since the 90's), but I recall that they had a different architecture and more advanced font support. I believe the latter was folded back into Emacs eventually.

Lean4 manages to pull off changing the parser on the fly at compile time. You can add new productions, add new syntax node types, and add new tokens. Then define macros or code to process the additional syntax. Here is a sample I found that

The MacOS app store has some sandboxing. For example, applications installed from the store can't access any file or directory unless a user has selected it in a file dialog. (The app can hold onto a ticket for later access.) I'v
