Yes, it's just a request but it's quite a worrying trend that it's okay to even have a politician propose this - especially with the Stasi not long ago...

This all seems cool until you realise that Lisp had full compile time access to the whole language for decades.

I don't care about production or performance much; I care about data analysis and machine/deep learning for NLP. Whatever lets me use the best language and packages is best and so far it's Julia with the ecosystems and tools

So... your problem is what exactly? Downloading files takes time? Steam has to be installed? Automatic updates?

No, I mean that it has nothing to do with compilation of strings. Homoiconicity means code is represented via data structures, so it can be manipulated with the language itself. C++ is not homoiconic.

It's very different since Lisp doesn't 'compile and run strings', it treats code as data structures - which means you can manipulate code just like data since they live in the same space, so to speak. And also, it has no

Yes, indeed, Code as Data isn't difficult if you just do something else. Your example is completely different from what the concept means in Lisp.

I think Steel Bank Common Lisp is a good name and the pun makes me like it even more. How is "Steel Bank" any different from a made up name? It's not.

If you don't know the language and tools it definitely takes quite some time to setup Java, Maven, etc. All the issues with class paths, manifests, and so on, that are just completely alien and opaque coming from any other language mak

This is exactly what I'd like to use F# for. However, I don't know if there's a good ecosystem for F# that gives me anything over Julias, for example.

Yep, I often hear people say their favourite language would be great for scientific programming, it only needs scientific libraries and people to use them. Julia already has those things, they're not easy to get.

For Julia there are PyCall and RCall, so the ecosystem is less of an issue than with other languages. Also, its ecosystem has been growing quickly over the last 2 years or so. https://github.com/JuliaPy/PyCall.jl http

You might take a look at Julia with PyCall and RCall, if you haven't already. I find it solves a lot of headaches I have with Python while allowing me to leverage the ecosystem.
