I agree, more RAM for much more speed is an acceptable tradeoff.

As a comparison to another language: for Julia there is DataFrames.jl: https://dataframes.juliadata.org/stable/ Comparison to dplyr, ...: https://dataframes.juliadata.org/stable/man/compariso

For better piping there's https://c42f.github.io/Underscores.jl/stable/ . It eliminates having to explicitly write anonymous functions.

I also did AoC in Julia and it was pretty great. I did a few days in Kotlin as well and the value of good tooling is hard to overstate. This is one of my biggest problems with Julia, otherwise it's a very good language.

> If you are getting bored while trying to relax, do you really need to relax in the first place? Yes, because boredom is important. Always being 'online' is detrimental.

With how badly 'farm animals' are treated we shouldn't commit to farming additional animals... especially not octopus which are highly intelligent, although that shouldn't make much of a difference.

You could try to increase the setting for the search tree or restarting VS Code (at least that solved some issues for me).

It's because a microservice in the video is also called Wingman.

Also there's https://github.com/JuliaInterop/RCall.jl for R interop.

Memory is cheap. Between large memory usage and slow code, I'd rather have the first. Also, that has never stopped Java from being used.

This is absolutely false in my experience. You pay for startup (100 ms on my system, I think) and for initial compilation, which has still been decently fast for me. Beyond that it's very fast.

I tried the example and it worked. I am indeed amazed, both at Wingman and how good Haskell and its tooling has become since I last looked at it a couple of years ago.

Why? Then you have to copy it from the REPL into the file later instead of already having a working version in the file. This makes zero sense.

Only if you know the JVM and a bit of Java, otherwise I would look at Scheme or Racket tbh.

Why do you write code in the REPL directly? Write it in a buffer and send it to the REPL.

Knowing german politicians, it's the latter.
