The comparison with Closure is really interesting. They make the point that they do less reinvention of Lua than Closure does with Java - functions, standard library, tooling. I'd love to know why. Is it just that Lua has less problems

The level of experience of the people writing (and maintaining) the code is also a factor I think. As other commenters have said it's all about risk reduction. I definitely agree that you can get a lot of value writing integration test
