How much do you hate going back to 60Hz? The hedonic treadmill is getting brutal. Going up to a 4k/34" monitor was nice but it quickly became normal. The main effect was how bad it made 1440p/27" monitors!

I struggle to hit 60Hz at 4k with 2080TI even with graphics settings knocked down a few notches. Maybe next generation.

I notice that the main topic for > 100Hz monitor owners is how smooth it is to drag windows about. When they show off the monitor, they grab a window and wiggle it really fast. Given no-one has yet come up with a more meaningful demo I&#

The level of control they maintain over the devices after you have paid means I don't feel I am left alone. I feel I only have the rights of renter not an owner. They do eventually use this power to force you to buy a new house. They u

Now you've read the manual, time to start coding: https://bbc.godbolt.org/ Awesome web based emulator. You can load various games too. Loads of them are still really playable. Try: Starport, Commando, Alien8, Inertia..

> I can't stand sugar alcohols, and got a ton of crap full of sucralose I don't think Sucralose is a sugar alchohol. You can spot those because they end with "ol" - Mannitol, Sorbitol etc. I find it pallatable myself.

I enjoy VR games but none of those sound attractive to me or at least with head-seats and controllers. Interactive virtual worlds are wondrous but not actually terrible practical for traditional tasks. Something that is perfect though is tr

That is a fascinating and disturbingly abusive prank - make someone responsible for killing a huge fish. What would they do - take it to a vet or a fishmonger or find a hammer? Call wildlife services for what you would buy in the supermarke

In my mind, adult taste is not just fashion but integrates judgement of quality and function. The adult has specific goals which are often benefited by greater order and less noise. A child doesn't share those goals. Their focus is pla

Yup - also makes me think of a parallel with medieval illuminated scripts. We could print all books today with trees growing in the margin or whatever but we don’t because a pleasant reading experience depends more on simplicity and quality

True but I don’t think any pictogram language has ever been as ugly as emoji. It’s the “programmer art” of pictograms. Brushes and carving seem to be helpful design constraints to drive restraint, regularity and simplicity.

I fully acknowledge they are part of language now and it’s a much harder decision to not support them, my point relating to the topic is that they aren’t simply new words, or an interaction pattern or a ligature but kawaii design elements t

I thought this would be more about how emojis have invaded products. I recognise their communication value but they are aesthetic disasters (colour, dated cartoon style, cacophony) and they are real lowest common denominator expressions - o

Huh, weird. I would have assumed deficiency would be inversely proportional to amount of sunshine. Do people in northern europe really experience so much more “sun on skin” time or is it wholly diet driven?

The insult is that the mac you "you have to buy" is just the same Intel CPU, AMD GPU, Micron RAM and Samsung SSD you already own which can build and virtualise the 10+ other platforms.

Quest link requires the Oculus app which only runs on windows. ALVR/VirtualDesktop are also Windows only. A cross-platform possibility would be if it served up a WebVR page that could be accessed with Firefox Reality.
