Strawman. PornHub doesn't argue against age verification, it criticizes the poorly designed implementation. Showing my ID at the liquor store to buy alcohol is not comparable to having to put my ID and PII in a poorly secured database.

Zoom and Google Meet existed before COVID. What COVID did was force employers to choose between letting people work from home or shut down. Suddenly, what was impossible a few months ago became totally fine. It didn't make WFH more

Gearing up for November I guess. While Twitters community notes are actually often pretty useful, I'm not sure YT can add a lot of value. They don't have a great track record around censorship and all.

And next week we'll read on HN an article explaining how take homes are unfair, racist and biased, same for "private projects". We've been going in circles for 20 years.

That sounds kind of stupid. If prices go down I won't sell my current house for as much as I bought. If I try to upgrade, granted the new house will be less expensive, but I won't have access to as much funds to pay for it.

The only reason I care about the value of my house is to know what I can get out of it if i need to move. If my house goes down in value but the trend is roughly general then I don't care indeed.

As of now there is no proof that it can be cured. Most treatments and therapies are to help pedophiles control their urges and not act. At the end of the day, it's a paraphilia. I don't think you can cure someone who's arou

Same. Riven was such a massive step up in difficulty from Myst. Of all the 4 games (yes 4, I refuse to acknowledge the last entry) it is definitely the most difficult. I had to wait for it to come out on GoG and replay it as an adult to fi

Good luck finding that. Women tend to not be interested in men who earn less than they do. I think the closest you may find are women temporarily supporting their husbands while they finish their degree or something like that, but again,

I think it's well understood yes. When an option is only available to 1% of the population I believe it is fair to say that it's not really an option.

Got it - I misunderstood the short code sample, I thought the 2nd half of the tuple was a literal instead of a variable. Makes sense.

I've never heard of the gender pay gap meant as this very granular, targeted comparison. On the contrary, I find that most data shared about this gap are just a lazy average of all men and all women earnings without controlling for sta

It has nothing to do with "socially acceptable", I think the parent was simply talking about even having the option of doing it. Very easy to be an aspiring author/painter/singer/etc when you have a partner to pic

A quick Google search indicates that 51% of the writers in the US are women. There is no discrimination there.

Some books and movies also have childish and terrible writing. For some games, story telling doesn't matter. Just like for some blockbusters movies the story doesn't matter, people just want to see cool explosions.

What about a picture book where the reader is supposed to find things on the page? Interactivity is just the ability to respond to a user's input. Even VNs with very limited branching do that.
