I felt much the same before my kid was born. I would concentrate on enjoying what time you have left as a free man to tick off any bucket lists that might be tricky being tied to your kids post code.

I have more of a 'when in rome' approach to kids. It's what humans tend to do, so I'll give it a go. Not everyone who goes on holiday to Rome has to do the tourist stuff though! But I'm not creative enough to work o

Is it binary? I get a lot of value from the level 2 systems already common. And appreciate the incremental improvements.

Fairly sure alcohol takes longer than that to kick in, so perhaps it's not the actual alcohol you crave, more the situation? Best to work out why you drink on those occasion, and try and figure out how to subsitute

I know a manual transcription company, which is still seeing modest growth from existing clients who also use ASR, so it's not quite there yet

It's a lesser of evils in my case. If you can give up weed and everything else too, great. But for me personally, I tend to drink a bit more when I have no weed, not hugely more, but I'd be very surprised if having no weed around

Maybe they are buying the brand, more than the tech. I bought an amazon basics vac for something like 60 USD which just stole the design of the latest cheap vac, so presumably can plunder the more advanced models too, once the market is rea

I personally prefer the chess.com lectures. But as long as we can agree to not use terms like 'lichess is objectively better' I'm happy we can disagree

It could be also said, those who tend to talk up lichess don't tend to have much experience using the paid features, so overall tricky to analyse these comments. As often it's the free versions being compared. With com users extol

There is about one post a month on this, which seems to most serve as opportunity for lichess users to assert the site is superior in every way. It's snappier, and there are some analysis features that are better than the com's fr

Same, I couldn't tell you a single HN user if my life depended on it. Very different to other forums I use. Fine with me.

Ah the monthly 'open source is superior to commerical enterprise' hymn. I use both sites equally and lichess is inferior in pretty much every respect. Assuming you pay of course .

The poster only mentioned two things. So you answer just makes me think you just don't admire commercial chess sites! To take the video lessons, chess.com are clearly leagues ahead of lichess. They can pay the contributors to produce q

It's not so much about being able to travel to the cities, it's about whether the huge cost of making it slightly faster to travel to the cities is better for the regions, than spending that money on schools, local transport, hosp

What is reasonable depends on context. If 80% of scottish voters argue 15 years (for eg) is reasonable, what makes Westminsters 25 number more reasonable? I would agree 10 years is pushing it .

It will encourage residents of poorer regions to travel to London, thus would likely disincentive economic investment in poorer regions. It would be better for the poorer regions to invest the HS2 money in local infrastructure and services.

Yes and the scottish aftermath will also be horrendous as many contradictory visions exist of indy too. But how else to do it? You can't agree prior to the vote how indy will look exactly, for the very same reason.

It's not about travel, it's about economic activity. HS2 will funnel economic activity from poorer regions into London. Great for London.
