> What do the monks gain by falsifying those records? Depends on their motives. Depicting the world as chaotic or orderly can allow you to manipulate people's fears and hopes.

I mean, so did Ghengis. He didn't call his rape + pillage a charity, though. It just so happens Mark is conquering by forcing the world to depend on him by rewriting "the internet" to mean "facebook".

NASA basically uses the approach you patronize so easily. And while I'm not arguing that it's practical to take this approach, defensive coding techniques allow reliable code to be written in environments that wouldn't be con

Sure. None of this is news to anyone. Why not discuss why C++ was chosen in the first place?

I would probably use Ada as well. However, calling out C++ is like blaming the gun for an accidental suicide. Yea, the gun may have been faulty, but why was it in that position in the first place? Terrible management with way too much fundi

You can write safe C++ (although it's hard). You can write extremely buggy haskell or ada. Are you really that much of a language bigot you can't see past the damn language to provide any interesting conversation?

Sure, lots of skills are good to have. Not at hundreds of dollars a class, though, and certainly not worth associating with a bachelor's degree. Otherwise my peers would all have degrees in Eclipse and be unemployed right now.

I disagree. I think happiness mosty derives from companionship, eating well, and being in the sun. It is capitalism that drives the need for achievement without reason.
