Quality of life seems to increase monotonically in the states. The relative social status does not, on average. Considering happiness seems more based on the latter, this seems to be intractable.

How does RAII deal with reference loops? It is trivial to create a loop of owned pointers in memory that never decrement, and it isn't that unusual of a pattern not to be a concern. Just curious; I used a combination of strong/wea

Go still has (slow, dynamic) unwinding for the express purpose of resource management. While I can't advocate for using it directly, it is enough of a concern to include in the core language.

You were effectively budgeting in your head. Good for you. Can everyone match your skill? Who knows. I guess no. I cannot budget this well. It is not that I do not know my level of cash, it is just that I cannot accurately estimate my spend

This makes sense if you can move upward. Obviously not everyone can. For these people, this advice is toxic and life destroying.

Well, is using accident all the time that much better? The truth is somewhere between 100% accidents and 100% at fault. There's no clear win to either side of the spectrum.

Dramatic? Yea. Click bait? Only for those who didn't know it was coming. Yahoo has a very meagre future as a company hoping to retain their revenue (let alone profit)

If there is a link between increased driving fatalities and legalized marijuana, it will be statistically significant and visible. I don't see much point in comparing total fatalities with other drugs--the harm is often under different

There are far from no employees with about 3.5 million truck drivers in the US. A company cannot operate an automated commercial service today because there is no licensing system for driverless trucks. The unions aren't going to allow

My point was that it's not technology that will be the hard part, it's legality and unions.

How do you figure? I don't believe there's been any interstate testing of automated driving on freeways with human drivers, let alone a standardized legal framework that would enable end-to-end automation.

It really speaks more to the runtime than the language. There's nothing fundamentally anti-parallel about lua, but even just concurrent GC is difficult to execute well. Look at how big of a deal Go's recent low latency claims are.
