I get the feeling that 90% of the check is if you are signed into a Google account, otherwise you're going to click some images. I've noticed this a lot of incognito mode where I will almost always have to do a captcha.

I don't think is is actually true since they actually did run some production services at MS like the speech service which did voice recognition for windows phones.

Azure also has a similar feature ( https://azure.microsoft.com/en-ca/features/cloud-shell/ ) with built in VS code based IDE.

I think this would be much harder because Linux is a monolithic kernel and doesn't allow subsystems the same way Darwin does since it is a hybrid kernel (like NT)
