I use DuckDuckGo almost exclusively for web searching, but admit I hadn't really thought of DDG as a technology play, either.

I admit that your point was very well hidden. It probably helps that I am rich while (as one might expect) most HN users are not.

This mercenary, puerile response is why I've given up on HN as a source of interesting tech news. Or, rather, why I'll give it up as soon as Gabe's site (or something similar) takes off. Even if I have to write it myself.

For whatever it's worth, I personally really like your site design. You likely don't remember my feedback on my difficulty navigating it, but I actually appreciate its simplicity and lack of overweening bells and whistles. I'm far more lik

Understand that I have not read your wordy post. I come from a poker background where the correct response is nearly (99%+) "You call too much." I could give this piece of advice to nearly everyone who asked me for advice on how to play a

Excellent. Thanks for responding. For better or worse (for my sake, not yours!) I know what this means in terms of how I may be able to use it in conjunction with an exotic options platform with which I am tangentially involved.

Are all of your gaming activities under the Maltese license? Sorry if this is too business and non-HN oriented. I will remove this question, if requested.

I have a Nokia N900 and I find making and receiving VoIP calls (Skype and Google Talk) just as convenient as POTS calls. I had never owned a smartphone before this, so I find its lack of battery life disturbing, even though it seems on par

I believe you have answered your own question. If the headline had read "People's Restaurants to Eliminate Hunger," I would have assumed it was yet another political DPRK story on HN, as opposed to a political Belo Horizonte story on HN. [

Thanks for the response. I'm not being intentionally obtuse, but I still don't understand your specific objecton(s). As I read it, I think it comes down to "a difference in degree is a difference in kind." I would argue that you can't real

I wonder how you square this with your past, as I understand, as an online poker pro? As a former professional poker player myself, it never would occur to me to denigrate the work of financiers or suggest that what they were doing was immo

Actual economic scarcity is pretty much the only business model, but I think you are using the term differently. A profit-maximizing enterprise should be looking for market clearing volume and pricing. Produce more than the market will co

Easy on the over-reaction. I've never asked anyone to be banned for anything. I've said that, even as the articles align with my political philosophy (and, yes, are interesting to me)... they should stop being both posted and upvoted (nee

It is not within the purview of HN. I almost always completely agree with everything posted at mises.org. That doesn't mean that I am interested in "converting" the denizens of news.ycombinator.com.

I'm approximately as Anarcho-Capitalist as one comes... and I wish I would stop seeing mises.org info on HN. It may not be the "wrong" venue, but it's decidedly inappropriate.

I don't understand the "bad thing" which is happening here. Are we supposed to be so thoroughly invested in the quality of Google search results that it's a personal affront when someone games the system?

Without arguing the points above one way or another: Unless I misread your initial message, you suggested that the government was not "taking" wealth from anyone, but rather it somehow had "surplus" wealth to be distributed. My question is

Whence comes this wealth? Government is not a wealth-creating enterprise. It's (arguably, entirely; verifiably, primarily) in the wealth redistribution business.

I don't understand this line of reasoning. How would these convictions stop the web? How will the reversal of these convictions keep the web from being stopped? If it doesn't get reversed at the EU level does this mean that they managed t
