I would say we have this language already, too. It's machine code or its cousin, assembler. Processor instructions (machine code) that all software reduces down to are very explicit and have no default values. The problem is that peop

LLMs don't work the way you think. In order to be useful, a model would have to be trained on large quantities of code written in your new language, which don't exist. Even after that, it will exhibit all the same problems as exis

Is it, though? Those new tools and techniques are the future of software development. Those of us who are trying to push those boundaries are writing all the time about our discoveries. AI has already changed everything about how I write

Bill Gates always believed that if you made tools for devs, they would make software that ran on your stuff. That's has very much turned out to be true, moreso for them than any other software company in the world.

I disagree. The majority of HN posts are indeed about the vanguard of software development and those reflect developers' common interests at the moment. You're already here.

LinkedIn has been taken over by this. Many (most?) viral posts and comments are from bots now. Not great.

Huh? Anysphere makes Cursor, an IDE, not a model. And this is their careers page, as in hiring for human engineers.

Prompting and RAG are the only tools you have, like everyone else. What is "tone?" That's not deterministic. You're asking an LLM to predict tone. And logic? Forget it. To validate (or really, dismiss) this idea, try it

Cool to see this becoming a thing. This is like an API revolution in progress because devs outside the company can build apps that use their real data -- through LLM prompts. I think we are starting to see the cracks in the old model of car

No device manufacturer would ever be permitted to own a national carrier like that, nor vice-versa. It gives too many opportunities for monopolizing the customer -- like there aren't enough of those already!

Use the LLM as the ultimate pair programmer to level you up. Make it explain things that you don't fully understand and be sure they sink in before they get implemented. The agent's access to vast repositories of code you've

If your company is already profitable to the tune of billions annually, "cost cutting" isn't necessary. You're just cutting people out of jobs and out of economic participation in society -- which affects a far larger gr

I worked in games 2 years before the studio shutdown. It wasn't because of "R&D" tax breaks. None of the recent layoffs or studio closures are explained by that. Nor are the Microsoft, Dell, or Intel layoffs which aren&#x

This doesn't explain the mass tech layoffs. According to the article, the rule applies to R&D. The vast majority of tech workers laid off in the last two years didn't work in research and development. They wrote regular softwa

Typography as an art form and communication aide is still older than you. Like any kind of decoration (think, endless paint colors at Home Depot) it can be used effectively in the right hands. And it can also be splashed around pointlessly

Yes, I missed a typo too late to fix it. You could host VS Code somewhere yourself if you wanted to. The most rational use case is to install it locally, like most people do. They offer a hosted version because they can and it looks cool to

VA Code a free and open source product so I hardly think a panic is justified. For new or non-regular users, a hosted version is quite convenient. It reads local files and GitHub repos, just like the version you install, which is also just

This sounds disingenuous and misleading. There is no way LLMs can be cajoled into consistent results. It's all prompts, all the way down. While this service may add more prompts around prompts around prompts, that's all it can do.

The answer is the answer the LLM predicted . LLMs don't give out (or even collect) stats about what questions folks have asked or not asked. And they certainly don't have volition or wishes. This is the ChatGPT equivalent of the
