You can still have a vesting period for shares in a private company. 4 years is a normal amount of time to be fully vested.

One trick I read while writing some session code is to generate a session fingerprint using a salted md5 of the IP address + the User-Agent. That adds one extra level of protection in case your session storage (but not your webserver) is c

I am. And Microsoft also recently announced that Windows 8 UI's are HTML5/JS, and yet here they go and release a brand new Silverlight/C# API. This is one very confused company.

I have the same criticism there too. I prefer multi-platform IDE's.

Please add a whole separate category for remote jobs. When remote jobs aren't separated it's too much effort for remote job seekers to filter through to find them. Basically every job board ever invented fails at this.

I'd love to try this, but the all-Microsoft stack required to use this SDK is a huge barrier to entry. I use a Mac, I don't know C#, Silverlight, Visual studio etc. In order to use this SDK I need to buy into MS tech on many levels. A br

In my spare time I let my subconsciousness work through the problems that my conscious-self couldn't figure out. I find music, entertainment, social activities, and natural surroundings the best way to enable this process.

Agreed, bitcoin is in the bear trap phase right now. Almost nobody knows about bitcoin yet. Wait until the Federal Reserve starts banning bitcoin... that'll mark the beginning of the bubble phase.

I wonder what the guys who founded and sold Reddit must be thinking of the site's continued success. Ever since Digg went down Reddit seems to have completely taken over the social news category.

I'm not going to shed a tear. Cable companies had to know their business plans weren't going to work forever when pay-per-view movie rates started exceeding the cost of renting a DVD, or in some cases actually buying the DVD. Now... about

I think a better way to think about this is to separate your company from the products you build. Ask yourself what does your company do, and how your products accomplish that goal. In a lot of startups these days the product is the compa

I just want to point out there seems to be a lot of Winklevoss-types looking Zuckerburg-types these days, basically everywhere. I thought this trend would die down after "The Social Network" came out, but in fact there seems to be even mor

This is exactly why JavaScript is going to win. I'm using JavaScript back to front using CouchDB -> NodeJS -> client-side JavaScript. The cognitive overhead of switching from language to language is pretty much gone. Being able t

That's kind of the same thing -- a person from the future would probably not really be able to guide us into the future any faster. He wouldn't even be able to show us how to build a time machine because the technology necessary to build t

It's reasons like this, that I really wonder if someone from today were to time travel into the past if anything they know would be useful at all. Medieval people would probably think we're all idiots.

This setup is more ergonomic than I thought it would be. A monitor does not have to be at eye level -- that's just what you're used to with a sitting desk. I look downward at about 45 degrees to the monitor and my hands are at a slight in

These will probably not sell well. I guess Google didn't expect the iPad to be such a big hit, and now the netbook market is already over with. If Google had more foresight ChromeOS would've been a tablet OS right from the start.

I think HP's marketing is wrong, they shouldn't be touting the WebOS operating system so much because ordinary people don't care. The operating system is irrelevant in this type of device. In fact, I think something along the lines of Goo
