I suspect really good programmers don't switch jobs all that often. They have a lot of leverage in finding a job they like, and once they've done that why leave? Sure stuff can happen, but not very often.

If that were really the point, wouldn't they have expanded this to more companies? Microsoft? Oracle? Yahoo?

Is anyone willing to think about the opposite hypothesis? Maybe programming really is a young person's game. You don't see a lot of startups full of old programmers dominating their fields. You don't see a lot of old programmers creating

An electric heater is inefficient if the electricity was generated inefficiently. Inefficient: burn methane at a central point running a steam engine generator, dumping tons of waste steam into the air, run the electricity to your house and

Another advantage to breadth is that you can recognize when another field's tools might be a better fit for your current problem. Being a pure generalist probably sticks you to the initial triage role (which is no fun), but having a very la

So after all that verbiage, he concludes: Some math was designed to be useful. Science is by definition those practical problems to which math can be applied. He still doesn't know. Very disappointing.

He has a solid point, but I can't help feeling the cure is going to prove worse than the disease here. Apple blocking flash is like Galadriel taking the ring and crushing Sauron. The reasons it's bad have nothing to do with any redeeming

Your mileage may vary I guess. I found it obnoxious, dense and far too in love with itself. When I hadn't found a point by the second page (with no obvious indication of how long it was going to ramble) I gave up.

A good article with a terrible and non-sequitor headline. Perhaps we are moving toward a society that overlooks minor indiscretions. That doesn't mean we overlook everything. With the increase in data, we can start paying more attention t

Swordfighting is a [set of] martial art[s]. Fencing is a sport. Unless you find a teacher who's interested in things like targetting vulnerable spots, putting power behind a strike and maintaining defense after a point is scored.

I stopped reading at "Cyber ethics? Hello! Most hackers I know think those two words are an oxymoron." Most hackers I know are very concerned about ethics. Almost fanatical. They don't necessarily agree with eachother on what is ethical,
