Re: Image: I agree with you about the image. What I really should have said is a one-man team who is trying to launch something can't always optimize every little thing. There is always one person like ericabiz above who goes through every

Edit: The obvious solution is to buy another dyno. This isn’t the issue, however. I wrote this post to show the unfortunate grey area in their pricing structure. It’s possible for low-traffic customers to pay a lot and still be subject to t

To clarify: I understand that getting another dyno would solve this problem. I love heroku but I think that they need to rethink the idle process. Some users only need 1 dyno and a bunch of addons. If we are paying decent money then the idl

Fine-tuning an image like that only matters when your site is getting a ton of traffic. I am only employing these other services for the learning experience.

Thanks! It's not getting much traffic so every word of encouragement helps.

I don't need another dyno. I'm already running way more than this app requires. (with addons, etc..) I think the service would be more fair if the time threshold for being set to idle was governed by the amount you are paying.

The pingdom ping is every minute (http check type with a string match optional setting). The heroku scheduler is running once every ten minutes. I'm not sure how often new relic runs.

Thanks for pointing out these issues. This is a new blog for me.

In my humble opinion, there must be some other process going on in the internals of heroku to keep my app idled. Please explain it to me if I'm wrong.

I don't understand how my app could be set to idle when I have pings hitting it from three separate sources. Also, the pingdom ping is looking for a specific word on one of my pages. It has to find this word to be considered successful.

Out of curiosity, what did you use to make those animations? Cool site, by the way.

I just built a new app to satisfy this exact need and launched on monday! http://www.mycelial.com I would love to get feedback about what you think. This app essentially answers "guynamedloren's" comment above. It's a "things I've made k

Thanks. Fair criticism of the name too. It's really hard to settle on a name when you're building things. Especially since it is so hard to find a .com that is a real word these days.

Thanks. I built this for the same reasons. We all have diverse hobbies and resumes can't capture all of the interesting stuff that we do. I also wanted to create a mechanism for better project discovery. Mycelial accomplishes this with tags

A few months ago I became unsatisfied with the existing ways that a programmer had available to show their work and accomplishments online. The resume sites out there use the old fashioned resume format of bulleted lists and text descriptio

Your software is really cool. Just wondering why you haven't completed your website yet. The "how it works" just takes you to a google doc. Anyway, best of luck. If you want to venture to Lake Tahoe, I'd be happy to grab a beer.

I don't think it's a moot question, in the sense that forcing yourself to think about some of these intangible things is a good exercise in philosophical thought. But I see your point. Probably not wise to spend too much time on a question
