I somehow expected something surprising in the article but there really wasn’t (the average temperature is in fact significantly lower in North Pole). The headline is at least not clickbait.

Maybe this is more common than I realize, but I was surprised they used Mechanical Turk to find subjects.

They do seem similar in that they attempt to address shortcomings in utilitarianism but Rawls seem to reject the utilitarian framework in favor of justice whereas this is more of a tweak.

I think it'd be useful to have the same graphs for some non-cat sounds, like the human vowels that you mention. It's not clear if there's something particularly interesting about cats or not here.

Counterpoint: citations are a valuable currency in science. Arguably one of the best ways to earn citations is to do good work and write clear papers. Not saying incentives are perfectly aligned -- many citations are superficial ("this

This quote from your link contradicts a "one-and-done" whole neighborhood analysis: >There would be an annual value assessment for each plot of land It seems the OP has better examples of how it would be done than that link.

FWIW, I just looked up my own property tax records and there's no breakdown, so not sure how common that is. That said, it is done for property insurance, so I think your point that it's already done stands.

A lot of people use Twitter DMs and complain about that experience having room to improve (e.g. being able to search DMs). Maybe some of these acqui-hires (and that's what they seem to be) will be toward improving DMs?

Interesting. What are the bandwidth considerations for this? I had the impression that many ISPs make self-hosting impractical on normal household plans, but then I've never looked into it seriously.
