Yes, it's possible: Google, for instance, did it not only after taking outside investment, but after it went public (in 2014, 10 years after it went public) https://www.investopedia.com/ask/answers/052615/

Actually, why wouldn't the Epic's of the world just issue themselves shares with super voting power, like what Facebook and Google did. That would address the concern in his tweet.

One loophole is the step-up basis that applies when the owner dies. Not sure why that wasn't targeted instead (maybe because the current plan produces revenue more quickly?).

The stories I see, like https://www.cnbc.com/2021/10/25/senate-democrats-push-for-bi... , says the tax on unrealized gains only applies to "tradeable assets." It doesn't seem like that would cov

Interest rates have been low for long time though. Seems you need another explanation to explain the recent increase in resignations.

Can you clarify what "2x/3x salary increments" means? Are you saying people are tripling their salary? Or do you mean, like, 3x a normal (~3%) raise, or whatever?

Hmm, thanks for the inside perspective from VMWare. I can still believe things would be different at Intel, because of his long history there, and he seems pretty passionate about it (although maybe he seemed that way at VMWare too?)

Noticed there are two other stories on the HN front page now featuring pop psychology: one on Kahneman's work and another by Dunning. I wonder if this news is part of the reason why?

Haha. (I had just come here to note one of the authors is the Dunning from the Dunning-Krueger effect -- I honestly didn't know anything about him, such as whether he was still alive!)

Yeah, it seems like they cherry-picked individuals who largely earned their wealth. I would think the bias might be opposite if the individuals they chose instead inherited their wealth.

You're just as likely to get the wrong prescription with an optometrist -- they're relying on your self-report after all -- except it's harder to correct, because you need to go and make another doctor appointment to have it

Not sure why vision checks require a doctor at all. In the end, they're just relying on your responses anyway: "What's better: A or B"? In fact, I'd go further and say it doesn't even require another person. I,
