One aspect that I see recurring in successful side-project stories is that someone pairs their development skills with some domain-specific knowledge. So you could do an inventory of what domain-specific knowledge you do have, and think ab

That is the exact niche type of side project that I dream about. Though, with "a couple thousand users paying around $10 a month" that is hardly a side project anymore, given the annual revenue north of $200K.

Thank you for sharing this list of resources. I have been studying French since September of 2020 (but only got serious about it in May of 2021). There are some resources here that I was not aware of.

It really depends on what your goals are with the language. If your goal is to "be able to communicate basic needs while visiting Paris for five days" then A2 is likely sufficient. If your goal is to "converse on a range of

The condition of the bridge was rated "Poor" in 2017. To understand what "Poor" can mean, here's a photo taken from underneath the bridge in 2018: https://twitter.com/gpk320/status/1078885

It is a "major" bridge. I've driven over it more than a thousand times, given that it was on my commute route for several years of my career. Had this collapsed at rush hour, 5pm, two of four lanes would have been filled wi

Thank you for sharing your DB course(s) videos on the YouTube. I'm a CMU staff member (Open Learning Initiative) that would never be able to enroll on-site, given likely my lower priority for getting a seat, but watching your videos o

It is refreshing once again to see an Elm post that looks at the pros and cons of the language and ecosystem, instead of solely focusing on a perceived problem with the way that the community is run.

Regarding French, I am learning it as well. I built a small site for myself to help in learning the 5000 most frequently used French words. It is, and always will be, free and with no account sign up needed. Check it out, you might find it

I plan to learn Gleam. I write Elixir for work and to have access to a statically typed functional language that can compile to (as of just recently) both the BEAM and to JavaScript fits an actual use case that we have. For non coding rela

Anki seems to be the gold standard. It has desktop, web and native mobile versions and it synchronizes across devices. The interface isn't anything fancy... but it doesn't really need to be for the app to be effective.

I have been building my own SRS flashcard web app, targeted specifically for language learning. Your implementation, UX-wise, is similar to mine (e.g. I have nearly identical "flip" transition"). Your use of icons is nicer,
