That's seriously messed up. There are tons of adblockers on the Play Store, why has Disconnect Mobile been singled out? BTW, I'm currently using Freedome which from what I understand is very similar to Disconnect Mobile

This is _exactly_ the kind of thing that only a player as heavy as Google can kickstart. We need to "reset the net", encrypt everything possible, and Google's help is more then welcome.

Why? The crypto is just as strong with a self-signed cert as a "name brand" cert. The only downside is teaching users to ignore SSL errors, which is bad.

Because it's open source, so it will be easier to audit, and probably because of the UI (Lastpass UI got a lot better in the latest releases, but still sucks).

Yeah, but the stories may be much more uncommon not because it's safer, but because electronic fraud is much easier to conceal then physical fraud.

With unencrypted communication, any insecure Wifi network is enough to "leak" your information, it's much worse then "only" Google/NSA/etc having access to it.

It's basically CPU + (disk) I/O + Wifi, but I think it would be a great feature. Android phones have battery usage monitor.
