I sort of agree with you, HATEOAS seems to be the least useful thing of the whole bunch for system<->system APIs. However, when there's a human involved (like, when coding against that API), it can be quite nice.

"How is any of this better for consumer freedom than just Windows 7?" Perhaps not for consumer freedom, but think about it in this way: You're getting a laptop largely subsidized by a corporation which is somewhat more guaranteed to success

Last year admittedly was rather bad in that sense, because of a couple sweeping changes. Hopefully we don't have to repeat those too many times in the future. The flipside is that Arch Linux has shown to be able to make sweeping and contro

One would hope that experts on societal, political and economic issues are, combined with people close to me, and ultimately myself. There's definitely no reason to believe that any individual is always an expert of his own life.

I concur. I played through Skyrim originally on PS3, then got a powerful PC and tried it on there. I thought the game looked uglier. Now I realize that it might be that the FPS is too high.

I'll focus on the positive. FreeBSD is a more centralized and more methodically developed operating system. It shows in a few important aspects: just about everything in the core system has a high quality man page -- the most significant di

Calculating childcare and housekeeping into the equation, I'm probably doing about 15 hours per day. 18 hours per day would mean that you would get 6 hours absolute maximum of sleep per night, and anyone who does that for longer periods of
