I'm no video expert, so correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought you can do 3840x2160@60Hz video with 24bit/pixel with under 14.4Gbps, which is the HDMI 2.0 limit [0]. According to this [1], that signal would require 12.54Gbps,

It depends on the configuration you're interested in, but there are some _relatively_ inexpensive ones from Monoprice [0]. I've tested this one with dual 4k monitors @ 60Hz, and USB 3. It works reliably, which is the most importan

I can’t recommend Migadu. I used them for a year, and I spent many hours dealing with delivery issues and somewhat frequent unannounced outages/upgrades which go unreported. Spam filtering is generally broken and ignores whitelists. Th

Based on the Wikipedia entry [0], it looks like 6PPD binds to the extra oxygen atom in ozone to convert it to regular O2, so it would be used during the life of the tire to prevent cracking. I just read that ozone will cause cracks in regul

Solid-state relays provide isolation between the control circuit and the load, which makes it easy to deal with voltage differences between those circuits, which happens frequently when there is some distance between them. Those relays can

It currently looks like CA will face a 54B budget deficit for 2020 [0], and "could see" a "one-time surplus" of $26B for 2021 [1,2], followed by projected deficits in 2022-25 [2]. [0] https://www.npr.org/

How does Montana deal with that problem differently?

Probably for the best, since it will come from your pocket. Diesel was getting phased out anyway, you can see that in the chart by the bump in gasoline vehicles.

Is this the connector problem where the screen doesn’t turn on?

Yep it was related to that, even though AppleCare ended up replacing my screen after 6 years (not 5 like I initially remembered). It was an unexpected bonus and I’m still quite happy about it. But the key was to call AppleCare directly and

Free range eggs by end of 2021 right? This is great! Hopefully Lidl will have them in other countries as well so I can buy them.

AppleCare for the Macs is definitely worth it. They even replaced the display on my MBP after 5 years when I called (that seems to be the key is to call someone at Apple directly). This was a part they should've recalled, but anyway I

Pay for hosted email. You can always get human support if you pay for e.g. MS Exchange. Use a custom domain, so you can switch providers if needed. There’s no substitute for having control.

ICE vehicles aren’t front-heavy like that, it would be terrible for braking performance.

In France, you end up paying a lower tax on your vehicle the more children you have, so a family with four children might pay the same taxes on a large diesel as a childless couple with a tiny gas car. I was trying to register my 3-cylinder

I wouldn't pay too much attention to this particular issue, whatever is politically correct today will keep changing over time.

But apparently not enough for most people, otherwise no one would want an ICE car anymore.

Cities went from horse-drawn carriages to automobiles because the incentives made it attractive to do it. The same can be done for for electric vehicles, it’s just a matter of putting the horse in front of the cart.

Every layer in the storage hierarchy is "just a cache" in front the layer below it, so the naming is somewhat arbitrary. L1/L2/L3 caches are transparent from the perspective of the processor - it only sees a change in ac

Right, but I’m not trying to determine Apple’s markups. I just want to know where to buy a new Mac for myself. I don’t care who gets the markup, Apple, the gov’t, whatever. Since you use words like “misleading” and “honest”, I wonder what y

Oh ok, gotcha. I’m not trying to blame any entity here, just pointing out the price difference that’s larger than the sales tax difference between the EU and CA. Interestingly HK prices for iPhones are almost exactly California prices (with

That's true, I'm comparing local purchase prices with currency conversion rates. The rest depends on your personal situation and tax jurisdiction.

Apple positions itself as being on the side of the consumer, and while they never really justified their soldered-down RAM (on laptops), one _might_ argue that it reduced failure rates. It's interesting that IBM discovered that solderi

I did include CA sales tax (in Los Angeles) of 9.5%, vs the VAT-inclusive price in France/Germany/Italy, and the difference _after_ including those was about 30% higher in the EU. Germany was the lowest, probably because they temp

The most important feature of an M1-based Mac will likely be OS support into the distant future. I'm still using a 2012 rMBP, which was the first-gen retina version, and it's held up much better than any other computer I've e
