Your pointing to that component of science that is commonly underappreciated in the public reception: mutual review. Be it in the form of replication, criticism or peer review. Science is a social activity. So cooking things up in a kitchen

These aren't mutually exclusive but rather well aligned goals. I find it odd to ask whether any non-monetary goals are "truly" their goals. They are a listed company. Of course they want to make profit. But they do so in part

No need to talk about jdownloader in past tense. It is still actively developed and I prefer it over youtube-dl most of the time, because it is way faster due to use of multiple connections.

I'm genuinely curious what you hate about Finder. What makes you think it tries to pretend that there is no file system? I personally love Miller Columns and the lack of them in any other file browser is one of many things keeping me f

You're correct in the sense that this is what science is per Popperian definition. However, I would be careful to assume that many scientists are actually so busy refuting hypotheses. The Popperian ideal and the reality in science are

Well, we’re still neither arrested nor physically harmed, aren’t we? So our speech is still free. Ycombinator is not obliged to give our discussion a visible platform. Here’s the obligatory xkcd: https://xkcd.com/1357/
