When I was at my last company we encountered many a client which considered Java the "alien technology". I remember particularly one of the five largest banks in the world absolutely would not allow the JVM in their data center even if it w

I'll play devil's advocate and ask-- so if they just fired him on the 2nd day of work, it would have been kosher and everyone would go home happy? Where do you draw the line when there's no employment contract?

What do you mean by "bicycle defense system"? In downtown Chicago I've seen more than one bicyclist hurl a massive bike lock at a car which was acting aggressive (following within inches of the bicyclist and leaning on the horn) but I doubt

You're referring to the Edge Act [1][2] and that only applies to US banks' foreign operations (their subsidiaries, to be specific). It is still very much illegal for them to collude against US customers. [1] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ed

That's an unrealistically high standard and I can't think of any recent case which would meet it. Why didn't the market find a solution to Microsoft in the 90's or Intel in 2000's and, more importantly, why did the Feds feel the need to int

Why would VC firms meeting and agreeing to change terms for their clients in lock-step not be collusion whereas if the brick and mortar banks did, it would be? (and was: http://redtape.msnbc.com/2008/04/did-banks-collu.html )

This post reminds me of an interesting phenomenon I keep noticing in my friends-- those who are the least sympathetic to the poor (in the 'those poor darlings never had a chance' sense) are those which came from the most modest backgrounds
