I'm working on something like this with the DebOps[1] project. It's a set of Ansible playbooks and roles that lets you manage Debian environments. I aim for it to be agnostic - roles can be used effectively both in LXC containers,

Touché. The `debops` package is in Debian Experimental, but it is a very old version. Before re-introducing it, I would like to clean up the code of the roles first and bring everything up to date, but this will take time, definitely not be
